Summary
The boyfriend looks at Eddie's arm, looks at Eddie's face, does whatever math drunk people do when they're deciding whether a fight is worth it, and somehow arrives at the correct answer. He grabs maybe-horse-Ashley by the elbow and pulls her away, muttering something about firefighters that Buck doesn't catch because he's too busy trying not to pass out.
Eddie turns around. His hand is still on Buck's chest.
"Seriously?" One eyebrow up. Not angry yet, but getting there. "We've been here an hour."
"He came at me!" Buck throws his hands up. Outraged. Innocent. An absolute victim of circumstance and nothing more. "I was just talking to her."
"You were practically on top of her."
"That's just how I talk to people, Eddie. I'm a leaner. It's my thing."
Eddie stares at him for a second. His hand drops from Buck's chest and he shakes his head, turning back to the bar.
"Get yourself a drink," Eddie says over his shoulder. "And stay out of trouble for five minutes."
He makes it roughly eleven minutes before he does something stupid again.
Or,
Buck is completely normal about Eddie shoving Blue to defend his honor. Really. He is.Bookmarked by Silent_Reader11

Summary
Buck wrote them all a letter.
One to Maddie, saying he loves her and he’s sorry.
One to Hen, thanking her for always being there.
One to Chim, asking him to take good care of himself and his family.
One to Chris, explaining why he won’t be around anymore.
And one to Eddie, which somehow ended up being the shortest.
Or Buck tries to kill himself after Bobby’s death. Eddie is heartbroken, slightly seething, and he just doesn't understand.

Summary
Then what? What has he suffered through enough?
This.
This obnoxious, married-couple something happening right. In. Front. Of. His. Game.
“Get a room already!” he begs with a groan, eyes never straying. He’s been trying to get through his level for ages now, and he and his dad were finally getting somewhere when Buck started talking, naturally drawing his dad’s attention away.
(He’d be more peeved if it wasn’t Buck doing it, but, as it is, he’s not exactly happy either.)
Buck sputters somewhere to his right, but Christopher ignores it, instead opting to say, “And while you’re at it, fuck some of that tension out.”

Summary
Running to the frontlines from a childhood he never had. Taking a bat to the wall with his son in the next room. Having an affair with the spitting image of his dead wife.
Eddie knows he’s never been good at grieving, knows he’s never been good at losing what little he allows for himself in the first place. This is why he also knows his coping mechanisms can’t possibly get any worse.
Buck, as he so often does, makes him reevaluate his assumptions.

Summary
Whatever retort Eddie thought he was expecting, this was not it. Empty eyes and a mirthless laugh; a tight-lipped smile that might as well have been a grimace, a slow nod before Buck dragged his gaze back up to flit across the team’s faces and land, finally, on Eddie’s.
He almost missed it – a flash of something cold across dull blue eyes, there and gone in the same moment: resignation, or catharsis, or apathy – something cruelly familiar and dangerously absolute.
“I should have died under that truck. At least then, you would still have been my family.”
