Summary
Tommy sits at the edge of his screaming station, staring down into the lava. The rickety log he sits on hangs precariously off the cliff side, but it does not matter. Nothing does. His gaze is blank as he watches bright orange bubbles pop down below.
It’s fascinating. It’s entrancing. He’s unable to pull himself away from it. It can take hours for him to leave sometimes.
This is not his first time here. It’s not his fifth time, or even his tenth time. He leans forward a little, wondering what wound happen if he just... slipped in.
“Tommy?”
He flinches, leaning back from the edge. He turns.
There behind him, her woolly white hair already greying from ash, is Puffy.

Summary
When Niki took her leave from the crater of L'manburg, the burn scars fresh and still bleeding, she couldn't hear it then.
When she retreated into the forest to be alone with her thoughts (the worst decision she remembers ever making), she didn't hear it then.
It's only when Puffy offers her salvation, that the crimson vines whisper loud enough for her to hear. Puffy's company is sweet, and fulfilling, but the Egg's tempting promises might be too much to ignore for very long.
