Summary
They say he’s a good kid, they say he’s a dutiful one. Jounin who visit the Tower frequently stop by the doorways to exchange a word or two with him. People seem to like him and he fits in like a glove in a place he has never been in before.
His name is Naruto. Kushina doesn’t ask him. Instead, she reads from the registration profile buried under piles of other paperwork while she’s in Minato’s office.
A crumbling future forces Naruto to go to a time before he was born, a week after Kushina learns of her pregnancy, with the sole aim of changing everyone’s future for the better. There is one condition, though: he cannot exist in this world after his counterpart is born. He has nine months and then, he must leave.
One way or another.

“Who are you?” Iida steps forth and questions sternly. “Who gave you permission to enter our dorm?”
The man stares at him for a moment and says, “Naruto. I’m Naruto. Who are you?”
Izuku nudges Iida’s shoulder, stopping him from responding.
“We won’t tell you anything until you show us your ID and the pass issued by Nedzu or Aizawa-sensei that permits you to enter this building. Otherwise, you are trespassing.”
The man–Naruto–looks at him and he feels the weight of his gaze, the casual scrutiny.
“Yes,” Ochako chimes in, a waver in her voice. Izuku knows how terrifying this must be for her and everyone else. After all, the league of villains has never held back from infiltrating UA and surprise-attacking them before. “Show us.”
Izuku’s day is quite normal, if not a little taxing, till an unknown pain licks at his insides and the next thing he knows: a blond stranger is sitting on his dorm couch and insulting Bakugo and escaping Aizawa’s scarf like it’s nothing. Naturally, he wants to find out more about this man named Naruto.

He’s not close enough. He’s not going to make it. Even if he managed to shake off the soldiers in front of him and just threw his whole body at full-speed between Luffy and Akainu to take the blow, he wouldn’t get there fast enough. He doesn’t have enough time. He’s going to lose another brother, only this time it’s going to happen right in front of his eyes, from seven—five—three feet away.
He’s ten years old again and learning what grief is. He’s ten years old and all that’s left of Sabo is the letter in his hand and a shared dream and the promise that Ace will look after their silly baby brother while he’s gone.
“DON’T TOUCH HIM!” Ace screams. It’s pure desperation. It’s the last human thing he’ll ever say if Luffy dies here.

“Where are your parents?”
“I don’t know where dad is, you’re acting so weird!” The last word was spat out like a curse, his little frame tensing in frustration. That exclamation seems to bring him to a boiling point, and suddenly his whole body slumps in defeat, all his previous zeal washing away like footprints to the tide.
“I saw Ace,” the boy admits in an uncertain little voice, like he shouldn’t even be saying that. There’s a strange weight to the words, as if he expects it to mean something to him as well. Those big eyes grow distant and misty, his bottom lip trembles. He looks like he’s about to cry. “…it was probably just a dream,” chewing his lip, his eyes slide to the floor to stare at his fallen sandal forlornly. He doesn’t seem to fully believe what he said, but continues to mutter anyway as if trying to convince himself. “I dream about him a lot, and Chopper says you can see things that aren’t real when your brain is being mean.. ha- haloo bin nations..?”
“Hallucinations,” Smoker corrects automatically, an uncomfortable twist wrenching in his gut.
That mop of black hair bobs once in a nod. “Yeah, that’s what I said.” It isn’t, but he doesn’t feel like arguing with a teary eyed kid.

He pressed his nails into his palm as hard as he could to escape the haze that had once again fallen into his mind. Benn hummed while he absentmindedly patted the boy on his head. "And do you know why?"
Luffy's eyebrows knotted together in concentration. He kept silent like this for almost a minute before his expression brightened up again. "Nope!"
Shanks gave the child a sappy smile and nodded sagely. "Of course, you wouldn't know what went through the head of those stinky barbarians." Privately he wondered if another smile like that would be enough to kill him.
Luffy laughed brightly. "You're weird."
Seems like he'd find out sooner than later.
