Summary
The first time it happens, Will classifies it as a little accident.
When he wakes, the morning sun is burning through the window onto their faces, and Mike’s cursing as he stands to close the curtains, stumbling all the way.
“Scoot over,” he grumbles, voice dry, and for a second Will can’t do anything other than sigh like a lovesick idiot. It’s a second too late for Mike, because he grumbles more words Will doesn’t catch under his breath and then physically pushes Will towards the wall to lay beside him, arm over Will’s middle. A second of silence passes, then Mike sighs, only to whine: “Fuck, my head hurts.”
Will can’t help it: he breaks down laughing, much to Mike’s offense.

Summary
Maybe it’s the lingering adrenaline from the false alarm a moment ago, but Mike suddenly has a bad feeling deep in his gut. Something is off. Slowly, he walks around to look at Chrissy’s face.
White eyes. Rapid blinking. Unfocused. Unseeing.
Mike’s terror multiplies tenfold, heart rate ratcheting back up. He blinks and it’s Will standing in front of him, glaze-eyed and shaking, seizing, eyes twitching in their sockets, stuck in a waking nightmare as the Mind Flayer forces itself into every orifice.
He blinks again and it’s Chrissy, going through the same thing. Or something very similar.

“I’m just…thinking.”
“Well, can you think out loud?” Will gripes, sounding tense and unhappy even as he settles back against Mike’s chest. “You’re making me nervous.”
Mike laughs a little. “I’m not sure I should; I don’t want to freak you out.”
“Mike,” and Will sounds supremely unimpressed, “I just took control of three Demos, two of which were miles away, and proceeded to snap their limbs and kill them with my mind. Not only that, I just told you that I did it by drawing strength, in large part, from being your friend. You’re worried about freaking me out? Really?”
“Yeah, and I’m the guy who watched you do it and thought that it was the hottest thing I’d ever seen in my life, so what does that say about me?”
There’s a long, shocked silence.
“See, this is why I don’t think out loud,” Mike jokes weakly.

Mike falls a little bit more in love with Will because, at this point, who wouldn't? He just saved Mike's life, after all. Unfortunately, the others don't quite see it that way, and it's getting to Will a little bit. Mike intends to remedy that.

Summary
Mike smirked, stepping closer. Then, as if on a whim, he reached for Will’s hand.
The touch was electric. Will’s chest tightened, but he held the gesture, allowing their fingers to intertwine. Mike’s small laugh was soft, like the tinkling sound of a bell echoing in the quiet courtyard.
“Come on,” he whispered, tugging Will toward the center of the garden.
“Come on… where?” Will asked, though he already knew the answer.
“To dance,” Mike said, spinning lightly on his toes, bare feet skimming the cool stone. “Just… for a little while.”
Will stepped towards him, not wanting to disturb the soft moment. He wanted to reach out and touch, but he didn’t know where to. Mike looked perfect like this, bathed in moonlight, wearing the softest looking shirt.
Or the AU where Will is assigned to kill the prince of Montauk, but instead he falls in love with him.

He remembers his Mom telling Ted Wheeler to calm down, that he was going too far – but she didn’t protest too much. Mike had run up to his room right after, forgetting the glass of water he had originally meant to get.
I won’t have a freak of nature living in my house, he curls up and sobs as another stab of pain flows through him, I’ll tie him to a post outside and let someone take him.
Or: Mike Wheeler presents as an Omega and promptly decides no one else can know. It doesn't matter that it's killing him, or that Will presents as an Alpha and Mike wants nothing else but be his. He can't let anyone know he's anything but a Beta, so he decides to take his suppressants and be content with pining from afar. This comes back to bite him in the ass in quite a spectacular fashion.

Mike couldn't explain to a toddler that he didn't want to talk right now without hurting her feelings. "Are you sleeping?" she asked louder, as if her volume had been the problem the first time.
Involuntarily, he heard himself make a chirping sound. He had only heard mothers, omega mothers, make that sound. Damn, he really couldn't get away from that part of himself. Holly giggled from outside, "You're awake, I heard you!"
"You got me, Holls." His voice even sounded tired.
or
Mike refuses to risk changing how the party perceives him by telling them he's an omega. Along with hiding his relationship with Will, and the fact that Holly's started to follow him around like a baby duck, the lies are becoming a tangled web.

Summary
Presentations were impossible to predict but if there was anyone in the Party that were to break that rule it would be Will and Mike, almost certain to be an omega and an alpha. But as with anything in their lives, that’s not how it works out.
When Mike finally presents it’s not as an alpha like everyone expects, but an omega, and Will follows suit, presenting as an alpha only a few months later. It’s shocking and unexpected, but to a boy who’s been in love with his best friend for years, it’s just about the best news he could hear. They’re complimentary in every way, alpha and omega, Will and Mike—and not even Will’s rising possessiveness can change that, even when the only thing that makes him feel better is scenting Mike so much he hardly smells like himself anymore. But it’s only a matter of time until Mike catches on to the fact that his need to scent him maybe isn’t all that platonic after all.

“Will Byers?”
Will glances around, as if there is another Will Byers in their vicinity. He manages a small smile. “Yeah, it’s- uh. It’s me.”
Mike rushes forward, and all he can think is holy shit, Will is alive, as he’s throwing his arms around the other boy and tugging him in for a crushing hug. It isn’t until Will is secure, nestled–maybe a bit stiffly–in his arms, that Mike starts crying.
“I thought you were dead,” Mike murmurs, muffled by Will’s jacket. He sniffles. “I thought- we- they told us you were dead.”
Or, Will was never found in S1, but survives in the Upside Down until 1987 due to his powers and connection with Vecna. Cue Mike, an ill-timed trip to the Upside Down, and a lot of feelings.

The last time he’d stood this close to the edge, Will had been gone, he’d thought he was dead. Nothing had mattered anymore, except protecting his friends, keeping those he had left safe. He hadn't wanted to live then, not without Will. He didn’t want to live now. Not because Will was gone—he was just across town in Mike’s room, probably not thinking about him or where he was for even a second—but because he didn’t deserve to. Because he was wrong, because he was sinful, because he didn’t matter, because nobody needed him and they never had. He’d just wanted them to need him because he’d needed them.
All he ever did was hurt the people he needed. Why would anyone ever need him? He was–
“Mike, where the hell are you?” Will’s voice latched a tether around his chest, pulled him back, pushed down his younger voice, silenced Troy and James.

It's October 1986, the Byers have been living with the Wheelers for 3 months now, and Mike can't sleep through the night, waking to nightmares and struggling to reconcile his growing awareness of his feelings for Will with the expectations of everyone around him. It all comes crashing down around him very quickly and suddenly (though it was a long time coming).

“So. The church?” Miike asked.
“The church.” Will said firmly.
The building radiated with a sort of holy innocence, looking almost untouched and definitely out of place in the Upside Down. Will jiggled the front door handle and groaned. “Locked.” He thought for a moment. “Stand back, Mike.”
Mike did, watching Will back up a few feet. “What are you-”
Will began in a running start before throwing the weight of his body against the door with a bang. The door swung open but Will kept his balance, wincing. “That was loud. And kind of stupid.”
“Are you kidding me?” Mike stared at him in a sort of awe. “I’ve only ever seen people do that in movies. Holy shit. That was epic.”
“Oh shut up.” Will blushed. “It was nothing.” As they made their way into the church, Will took off his jacket, slinging it over his shoulder and stretching out his arm. Mike watched the muscles in his back strain against his t-shirt, his biceps and lats bulge from the simple stretch. Mike swallowed, hard.
“Hey, it’s not too bad in here.”

All three look to the entrance of the lounge, the direction of the thud.
“Shit,” says someone out of sight, just beyond the entrance, almost too soft to catch.
Will’s blood runs cold, because he knows that voice, knows the specific lilt of it.
“Mike?"
Or, Will comes out on his own terms, to the two people who truly matter - and is overheard by the one other person who means the most. In wake of the revelation, they decide to split off and take the final battle with Vecna into their own hands, all while navigating the undeniable pull that grows between them.
