    “I have The Butterflies,” Cas interrupts Sam to announce loudly.

    Dean startles back, and Sam stops talking, looks between the two of them in disbelief. Taylor continues to croon.

Whether that’s under his breath or out loud is just a roll of the dice, and most of the time, his surroundings get caught in the crossfire of whatever it is he’s fixated on. If that happens to be an empty scout ship, fine. If it happens to be actual, real, living, breathing people? Less so.

    Which means that stumbling into this knowledge after a year and a half of friendship is like the time he got clocked in the face by a left hook in training, because how in the fuck is he supposed to go on knowing what he knows – knowing that he’s thoroughly besotted with one of the first friends he’s ever had – and not say anything?

    He doesn’t.
