He lowers the phone, and Hayden instantly launches into his rambling before Shane can get a word in. “Listen, I saw you were panicking, and you were so far away that you were barely responding, so I thought I’d call your girl, I thought maybe she knew how to help you better or she could talk to you, I thought–I don’t fucking know what I was thinking, but then he picked up the phone, and–”
“How do you know my passcode?” Shane asks again.
“That’s what you’re focusing on?” Hayden is basically yelling at this point. “Rozanov is screwing your girlfriend, and you’re worried about how I know your fucking passcode?”
Shane’s brain fully short-circuits.
“Rozanov is what?”

He shares a glance with Vaughny—making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich while still dancing along to the music—and Sully, who’s wearing not only a pair of goggles on his eyes but someone else’s on his head. Also, inexplicably, a feather boa.
“No?” Scott says.
“He said President Trump wants to call,” walkie-talkie guy insists, like this might be a compelling addition.
Vaughny licks the knife and puts it back in the open peanut butter jar. “Definitely no then.”

Usually, Hayden can accept that Shane's private life is none of his business. When he’s at home waiting on four kids hand and foot, it’s not like he's filling his days making deranged cork boards connecting Shane to every gay man in North America.
But on the road, he has nothing to occupy his time besides the occasional Skype call and cable TV. It gets harder to ignore the fact that Shane’s swapping sweet nothings with a man he still won’t let himself talk about.

He goes to the fridge to look for the bell peppers, and while he’s in there, he says, “It was a good first kiss. As far as I could tell. I hadn’t really kissed anyone before.” He takes an orange bell pepper from the bag his mom brought over and brings it over to the counter. “Not anyone I really wanted to kiss anyway.” He cuts the top and bottom off the pepper and then works on cutting out the seeds. “Ilya’s a good kisser,” he adds. And he can’t believe he’s just said that out loud to his mom.
