“Hey,” Pearl murmured, “can I help?”
The crying only intensified. “You’re dead,” Gem hiccupped. “Jimmy shot you.”
“Yeah,” Pearl agreed. “He did. And then I respawned. Here. On Hermitcraft.” She rubbed Gem’s back in soothing circles. “It’s safe here.”
Gem kept sobbing, so Pearl reached out and wrapped her arms around her friend. Gem leaned into the embrace and buried her face in Pearl’s shoulder. “You’re not dead?”
“I’m not,” Pearl confirmed. “Everyone’s okay.”
Or, what if the lifers lost their memories during the games? What if the Villies mourned Pearl for real?

Summary
Grian, bored, picked up a few large rocks and walked a few yards away to toss them at the ball. The ball hit an incline and rolled faster and faster, headed straight toward Scar. A couple of people noticed, and several eyes widened. Scar, though, was completely oblivious.
Oli B noticed from his spot outside the pit, and he started to shout something. “Ry ― I mean Scar!”
But the ball had already reached its destination. Scar looked down at it with a comically shocked expression. “Does that mean I died?”
“Yeah,” Grian answered, looking equally surprised. “I’m so sorry! I thought you’d notice it and get out of the way!”
“I thought it was just another trick!” Scar defended.

Summary
Gem threw her hands into the air exasperatedly. Winnie, who had stopped retching, glanced at her curiously. Gem bent down to stroke her.
“What do you eat, girl?”
Almost in response, the dog pricked her ears. Both went silent, and a barely audible sheep bleat sounded from across the forest. After a pause, Winnie's wolf instincts seemed to kick in, and she raced through the forest, Gem sprinting close behind. The puppy had surprisingly good stamina, and by the time Gem made it to the clearing, Winnie had made quick work of the sheep they'd heard. For some reason, though, she hadn’t eaten it yet. The dog stood staring at what appeared to be to be a normal cliff. Gem moved to stand behind her dog and saw something engraved on the stone. Something that gave her chills.
A symbol.
A symbol that, inexplicably, made her heart speed up.
Or, Gem got an invitation to join something called Hermitcraft with her friend Pearl. Also, she keeps getting weird flickers of déjà vu.
