The sound of the world drops away, and Remus is extending both of his hands. On the top of each palm is a hearing aid. The other man’s mouth moves for a few more words, but Remus isn’t sure what he’s saying—he’s never been all that great at lipreading. When his pale-colored eyes stumble over his outstretched hands, his face grows flushed. Finally, mercifully, he shuts up.

“Feeling alright, Lupin? You look…” Black looks him up and down, bold eyebrows quirking up on his forehead, “Unwell…”
“Fine,” Remus pushes away from the wall and busies himself washing his hands. Sirius steps up to the sink next to him, watching him through the mirror.
“Everyone loses,” Sirius says. “I mean… Not us, but you won’t be the only ones to lose your first preseason game.”
“Fuck off,” Remus rolls his eyes and shakes water off of his hands.
“Sorry,” Sirius grins. “Didn’t think you’d be so sensitive.”

“They’re teen royalty,” Evan says, glancing over at the field, and Remus follows his gaze to a trio of boys making their way out onto the field, wind artfully tousling their hair like they’re currently shooting a shampoo commercial. “If Hogsmeade was The Daily Prophet, they would always be on the cover.”
“That one there, that’s James Potter,” Barty says, pointing at the dark skinned boy with messy hair and gold rimmed glasses, his gym uniform appearing to be several sizes too small. “He is one of the dumbest guys you will ever meet. Evan sat next to him in English last year.”
“He asked me how to spell orange.”
“And that little one, that’s Peter Pettigrew,” Barty continues, pointing out the smaller blonde boy, a muggle cell phone pressed against his ear, so focused on his call that he doesn’t even notice the dodgeball before it bounces off the side of his head. “Peter Pettigrew knows everyone’s business. He knows everything about everyone.”
“And evil takes human form in Sirius Black,” Barty says darkly, an unpleasant expression crossing his face.

Summary
Remus Lupin is in a funk.
He's twenty-six years old with no job, no prospects, no savings, no plans. A burden to his mother and friends. What Remus needs is to get back on track. Back to his plans of becoming a successful Londoner, a successful musician, a successful adult.
What he does not need is Sirius Black derailing said plans with his stupidly gorgeous face, infuriating smirk etc.
So, after the best hookup of his life, Remus leaves in the dead of night, expecting never to see Sirius again.
He ignores the feeling that his whole universe has shifted, that something in him has been irrevocably altered. Because love is simply not on the cards for him right now. But what Remus doesn’t know is that you can't change your hand once it’s been dealt; you can only fold, or go all in.OR

James pressed his lips together hard as he fought the urge to suck in a breath at the words. He instinctively reached for his binder of prepared materials and began to flip through it as if it would have the answer, rustling the pages frantically as he did.
“Hello?”
James flinched. “Um, hi, yes sorry it’s uh-- it’s my first day.”
A pause. Then, dry as a bone: “Brilliant. You’d think they’d at least train you to tell people not to kill themselves before handing you a phone.”
James froze, then panicked. “Oh God-- you’re right, I mean, of course-- I didn’t-- oh, shit, I just--”
James’s rambling was interrupted by a quiet sound, over so quickly he almost missed it.
The caller had laughed.
At him.

James immediately nods his head, the others follow and do the same. Frank really was scary when he was angry, something none of them were ever willing to cross.

Summary
When Remus finds a red journal at the Moonshine, he doesn’t expect to get caught up in a breadcrumb trail of clues through the bookstore, and definitely not in the words of the stranger who left them behind. But the more he writes back, the more he finds himself chasing those words across London. Between dares, secrets, and late-night thoughts inked onto paper, he starts falling for the boy behind the journal.
Sirius never expected anyone to respond. But when someone does, it changes everything. Suddenly he’s seeing the city through the eyes of the mystery boy answering his letters. Waiting anxiously every time he passes the journal on, hoping it comes back to him. And every time it does, he falls a little more.
