Melilla paused, glancing over at him with a raised brow. “Deep thoughts for the middle of a basketball court stakeout.”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “I’m serious. Like… how much we miss when we’re not paying attention.”
She shrugged, flicking her stick away and leaning back on her hands again. “Maybe. But most people don’t stop long enough to notice.”
“That’s what I mean.” Eddie sat up a little, his fingers brushing against the grass again, as if grounding himself. “I’ve been rushing through everything. It’s like I’m scared to stop because then—” He broke off, unsure if the words were too heavy for this moment.

And, here, looking at his best friend, he can see that something’s broken inside him, too. And, maybe it’s the therapy he’s had over the years, his sessions with Frank, but Eddie wants to talk to Buck. He wants Buck to talk to him. Buck, who just looks so fucking sad, still in his dress blues, one hand drinking the beer, the other coming up to loosen his tie.
This morning, Eddie had noticed Buck tying, untying, retying the tie with breaths of frustration, fingers shaking. “Eddie,” he’d said lowly from across the room, and Eddie wouldn’t have even heard him if he hadn’t been watching. “I, uh, can never – I can never get this right.”

Eddie was sitting down at Chimney's dining room table with Bobby, Athena, Chimney, Hen, and Maddie. "He'll come back; he just needs time away. I really don't think you should chase after my brother." Maddie said softly. Eddie scoffed, "Why not? Chim chased you down."
"He needs time to think and to figure out his life. I was having a mental emergency that put me in a mental hospital," Maddie said, looking at him.
Eddie rolled his eyes. "Except for the fact that this day had been coming for a long time." He sighed.
Everyone looked at Eddie, expecting him to continue. "On top of the childhood trauma he got and the typical stress of a firefighter, he's been through... being sexually assaulted by his therapist in her office, ghosted by his first love, getting his leg crushed, a pulmonary embolism, a tsunami. He's a savior baby." Eddie took a second and locked eyes with everyone. "Let's see what else... he was struck by lightning, and he died!" Eddie got louder. "Buck was bound to fucking snap at some point," He said.

Summary
18 months since the lawsuit ended. Everyone has finally forgiven Buck and is his friend again... Everyone except Eddie... Eddie pretends he doesn't exist. After an accident on the firehouse stairs, Buck very quickly learns that the best way for Eddie to acknowledge him is by getting injured. So... he takes matters into his own hands for Eddie's attention. Until it all starts getting a little out of control...
