Of course Obi-wan was scolding Anakin as soon as the door opened, before they were even in the room.
Ahsoka stepped into the room and stood by a wall as Anakin responded. “It wasn’t my fault!”
“Can you explain exactly how it is not your fault?”
Anakin’s mouth moved without words before responding, “Ok fine, so it was my fault, but I didn’t know what would happen!”
What happened was Ahsoka heard songs, and somehow, so did Rex.

Summary
Rex was there when Ahsoka handed Maul over to the Jedi. Rex was there when Ahsoka learned of the betrayal of Palpatine, Kenobi’s injuries, and Skywalker’s departure. Rex was there as Ahsoka stood before the council and gave her report. And Rex was there when she told the council for a second time that she would not be back.
Rex didn’t realize she was talking to him too.
Or Ahsoka knows what almost happened. She knows Maul was telling the truth and that guilt is destroying her. Rex understands she needs time but that doesn’t mean he likes it.

Summary
Had he known then what was about to happen, he can’t honestly say he would have still gone. There were many moments in his life Rex wished he could redo. As much as he hated to admit it, this was the first. The first he would change if only he could.
Before he boarded, Ahsoka turned to him with a question, “Rex, you can obviously say no, but can I give you a kiss.”
Rex was shocked, and nervous. He had some experience with physical affection, but certainly not much. Not enough to be prepared for this question. Not this question from… her. Wordlessly, he nodded his head. Ahsoka approached him and lightly kissed his cheek.
It was soft, and warm, and over before Rex was able to fully register that it was happening.
Then she stepped back, and waved goodbye.
Rex kept his eyes on her until the loading ramp finally closed. Once Ahsoka was no longer visible, Rex floated to the cockpit and readied to leave. Lifting off the ground, he input his coordinates and waited as the hyperdrive readied.
The chirp of his comm drew Rex’s attention.
I do want that back, you know.
