Summary
“The fact that we can’t talk about him without bringing up his father’s influence is testament to how dependent he is upon his name,” Dongsik said tersely. “Take away the name, the accolades, the district support and put him in the ring.” Dongsik’s eyes and mouth turned upward in a smile laced with insanity. “I’ll take a starving kid from the lower districts everytime.”
Fuck him.

Summary
She gasped as the cold jolted into her bones, sapping her strength. She could hear the guards behind her, and she pulled her heavy dress through the water, collapsing on the opposite bank. She could run no further.
“Now what’s a pretty flower like you doing in a place like this?”
Juwon’s vision tilted, but through the pale moonlight she could just make out the figure of a woman standing over her.
“Help,” she gasped and darkness overtook her.

Summary
Gasping for breath, Juwon looked down at the tissue he had been holding to his mouth, disgust overcome by curiosity.
Ice shot through his veins at what he saw.
The tissue was splashed with bright red blood, fresh and speckled from the force of his cough. And in the center was a single, yellow petal.

Summary
‘Dongsik’s eternal love MINJEONG’ confronted Juwon from Inspector Lee Dongsik’s phone.
It didn’t seem like the type of epithet Inspector Lee would have saved voluntarily to his contacts. Yet Minjeong, whoever she was, must be special if he’d allowed it to remain.
Instead of Foreign Affairs, Juwon is assigned to Seoul Met's RIU straight out of graduation, where he is paired with top detective and known lunatic, Lee Dongsik.

Summary
“Ahjussi, you don’t understand, you can’t marry this man!”
“Minjeong!” Joowon hisses between clenched teeth as Dongsik coughs loudly covering a strangled laugh, “Let’s go to the car peacefully okay?”
Joowon can't help peeking over at Dongsik, pretty face twisting into a scowl as he notices the blatant amusement on the older man.
His distraction provides Minjeong the chance she's been waiting for and with a grunt she hooks an arm around his neck attempting to drag him downwards towards the pavement.

Summary
Juwon sighed. “He was my partner when I was stationed in Manyang.”
“Just a partner?” Inspector Kim turned to the rest of the Foreign Affairs team. “You should have seen him, bouncing up to that man like a puppy. I thought he’d been possessed.”

Summary
“Do you think I ever regretted it?” Ji Hwa asks, flicking the ashes on the ground.
“You should,” Dong Sik spats out, kicking an empty can - wincing when she slaps his arm without holding back.
“Well, I don’t,” she says with a sigh, straightening her back once again, “If I don’t regret a bastard like that, why would Inspector Han regret an idiot like you?”
He stays silent. Here in Manyang most of the streets are still rough, dirt and gravel sprayed without care on the old, ruined cement, pebbles casting their little dark shadows under feeble street lights. In which everyone has Opinions, and no one needs to meddle, but they would still like to give a gentle push.
