It isn’t truly dark.
Not to them. The cages line the wagon like ribs, iron bars slick with old rust and older fear. Lanterns hang unlit, unnecessary—most of the monsters inside can see just fine without them. Their eyes catch shapes, movement, the faint glow of breath in cold air. They watch each other suffer in silence, pupils sharp, unblinking, memorizing every tremor of the night.
But she can’t. For Weaver, the world is a blur of shadow and sound. Her vision has always been poor—too soft, too human for a place like this. Darkness presses against her eyes until shapes smear together, bars bleeding into the floor, floor into nothing. She blinks hard, squinting, fingers curling around the cold metal as if touch might tell her what sight refuses to.
“It’s cold…” she whispers, voice thin but steady. “I’m hungry—so hungry. There’s nothing to eat…” Her stomach aches, hollow and sharp. The smell of damp straw and iron fills her lungs.
“My love,” she calls, fear creeping into the edges of her words despite her effort to keep them gentle. “Where are you? I can’t— I can’t see you.Bookmarked by SussyReader

Summary
Rudo and Regto are banished to the pits when he is only ten years old after they are framed for murder. They land in a garbage field of poison air, trash beasts, and a future scraped together from whatever they can salvage.
Nothing was trash to Rudo. Every item is important and he'd fix all of them if he could. How was he supposed to know that they seemed to care about him, too?
Or.. Regto does everything he can for Rudo on the ground even if it means risking it all when they join the Cleaners.
