“It has a cage, doesn’t it?” he asked quietly, and noted the subtle changes in his family members’ posture. “Is it for me?”
Cora gave him a pleading look and nodded.
“Is it because of what you’re going to tell me?” he asked, voice like gravel.
Another nod confirmed it.
Stiles.
Oh, GOD. It had to be Stiles. Derek would not lose control over anyone else in Beacon Hills and they damned well knew it.- OR -
The one where Derek has been gone for 6 months building a new life, finds out that Stiles is being assaulted by Theo, so he comes back to Beacon Hills to kick some serious ass and rescue the loudmouthed human who stole his heart.

“One spiced hazelnut mocha for the dude with the impressive eyebrows and cute scarf,” he says, handing Derek the cup instead of putting it down on the counter like all the baristas do. Their fingers brush gently, and Derek takes far too long to take the cup from Stiles, their eyes meeting.
Ask him for his number, his brain supplies in a voice which sounds scarily like his sister’s. Stiles raises his eyebrows, their eyes still locked and both still holding the cup.
The second Derek opens his mouth, the moment is broken by one of the other baristas shouting, “Stiles! We could all use a little help here considering we have a line going out the door.”
Stiles pulls his hand away as if he’s been burned, giving Derek a sheepish smile before he turns to get back to work.
Derek heads out past the line of irritated customers, ignoring the dirty looks he’s being given while he curses himself inwardly. Idiot. That voice sounds like his other sister.

Stiles’ heartbeat skyrockets, snapping Derek out of his daze.
“What’s wrong?” he asks, swinging his legs round to sit up, his instincts calling for claws. He frowns at Stiles’ wide eyes. “If this is because I told you to get your own beer—”
That isn’t why.
Derek opens his mouth to hurry him to elaborate, but Stiles is looking back at him with sparkling eyes, his own mouth firmly closed.

They don't know what it had been that set Derek off. It had been months after the alpha pack was gone. Stiles had been saved. There had been losses but things had gone back to normal long ago. If you don't count the nightmares that is. They had somehow crawled back into their lives, wounded, but fond of the future they had just saved. And then, just like that, the loft had been empty. A shift in the pack bonds, an emptiness that had clawed at their hearts.
At first they had searched. Hours and hours they had run through the woods for a trace that didn't seem to have a source. Something that had smelled like Derek and yet again didn't. But eventually the searches had stopped.
He’s been out there for months. Stiles knows it. But winter is coming. It’s getting less and less possible to run the woods for them. Derek’s time is running out.
He needs to find a way to lure his wolf home.

His neck itches, he scratches and frowns. Who would want a broken Omega? And to make his feral nephew happy of all things? No one will surely be looking for an Omega like him, his dead body would just rot simply in the forest and no one would know.
"Fine, I'll do it. But no mating, got it? Just make 'im happy."

Derek was tired. Every day his pack would beat and degrade him; all he wanted was to be safe in his soulmates arms and close out his past, but that didn't seem possible. No one wanted him, he was told this over and over again, and saw it. No one would look at him, talk to him, or help him when he was being beaten. That changed when the Winchester pack rolled into town. The Hales and Winchesters have been allies for only two years and it was slowly disintegrating. The two Alpha's, Alpha Stiles and Alpha Dean, were coming with a third of their pack to see if the treaty was worth fixing. Alpha Stiles, being unmated, smelled the sweet smell of a hurt and scared Omega, his mate. When he realizes it's the Alpha Hales Omega son, he snaps and will only fix the treaty if he gets their Omega. not wanting to lose their punching bag, they try and persuade him other wise, but he will not budge and they hand Derek, who at that time had just been beaten, over to Stiles and never see him again.

“Jesus!” Stiles fumbles, tries to catch him, and as soon as his hands are on Derek again, the screaming stops. Derek’s eyes are wide, and he’s panting on the ground.
“Stiles. Stop touching me.”
“Fine. Whatever. Just trying to help.” He pulls away, and Derek doubles over, groaning.
“Come back, come back.” Derek moans, reaching towards Stiles. As soon as their skin touches, Derek relaxes, falling back onto the forest floor.
“What’s going on?” Stiles asks, his hand slipping in the sweat that coats Derek’s skin. Derek twists his arm and grabs Stiles’ wrist.
“If I stop touching you, it feels like... It hurts, like wolfsbane.” He sits up. It twists Stiles’ arm into an awkward position, and Derek lets his grip loosen just enough for Stiles’ arm to slide against his fingers.
“You can’t let go.” Stiles says, wrapping his free hand around Derek’s arm.
“I can’t let go.”
