Summary
Narita Brian, hunter and protector of the village, is sent out into the forest to track down a wounded deer as the sudden onset of winter makes predators desperate for a meal. The idea is to grant the deer a merciful death before it accidentally brings wolves or bears closer to the village and puts their livestock at risk. Unfortunately, a pack of wolves have already found the deer, and its monsterous protector, a beast of myth of legend that strikes fear into the hearts of every uma, the most dangerous creature Brian could comes across: a horse.
And there's a lot more to the creature than meets the eye.

Summary
While on campaign to seize control of a kingdom with a tyrannical king, General Narita Brian awaits with her detachment of highly trained warriors to launch a surprise strike against the enemy. She doesn't understand the fear that motivates the enemy troops to follow the orders given to them, clearly being used as meat shields for nobles who will sacrifice the whole lot of them if it means tiring out the Imperial soldiers. Her Champion, Queen Hishi Amazon, tells her how fear can be a powerful motivator that disregards all else.
Then, she learns firsthand how true that is.

Oyuki steps through the threshold, spotting her shamisen propped against a wooden stand that Atsu had built for it.
