Summary
There was no grand party, no audience, and certainly no manufactured romance intended to fix a crumbling relationship. There was just a small, perfect, slightly lopsided cake on a wire rack, one tiny unlit candle, and a single, hand-drawn sign saying 35! taped crookedly to the wall above the toaster oven. The scene was utterly unpretentious, completely them, and devoid of the hollow, performative perfection that had poisoned their past.

Summary
Kuroo snapped the ring box shut, the sound a dull, final click in the quiet train cabin. He was avoiding the real answer. He was ignoring the evidence in those texts—the slow, creeping frost that had killed their intimacy long before the snow started falling tonight. It was easier to blame one thing.
Was it that night, the fight? he thought, his stomach twisting. It was the fight. It has to be. I pushed too hard. I can fix one fight.
But as the train emerged from a tunnel, taking him further away from the penthouse they owned and the man he loved, a cold, terrifying certainty settled over him.
It wasn't the fight. The fight was just the autopsy.
