Teeth in the dark. Incandescent eyes. Waterlogged facial muscles, twitching into a razored false smile. A wide, wet crack in a red ruin of a mouth.
It drew breath with a shudder.
“Welc—”
Click. Flash.
Three twelve gauge at close range. Entering through the eyes, cheek, and mouth. Bucking in every front tooth on the way to making mince of the throat. In a blink, faster than the mind can transfer the sensation of eviscerated nerve endings to the brain, your head turned into mist above the shoulders, swirling in the air as the body collapsed to the steel decking, along with the hollow tinkle of three spent shells and friction-heated bone.
It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
