Too cold. And too dark. It's not morning yet, barely any light peeking around the curtains, and Aurora doesn't know why she's awake.
Why is it so cold? Maybe that's why she's awake. It feels like her bones have frozen solid and a jolt of pure terror goes through her. She tries to wiggle her fingers, then her toes, relieved when they move at her command. Their numbness is a little concerning, but she can move. That's what matters.

Bill Hawks is a man of science, of logic. To believe in that which can’t be seen or verified with any tool was nonsensical. To believe without proof was absurd, and so Bill did not. He isn’t afraid of a bogeyman, or that which lies in the darkest of corners. Those were the fears of children.
All that to say, Bill did not believe in ghosts. Not until after the incident.
Bill could see her sometimes, out of the corner of his eye. When he’d look, she would be gone. The first time he recalls it happening was after the explosion, during his recovery in the hospital. He thought it must just be the product of his concussion. Something was wrong with his brain, and it would surely go away after he was steady again.
She didn’t leave.

There’s everything we’ve ever wanted. An art studio for you… a ballroom with an orchestra… even a forest of our very own outside!”
“So much…” her voice was quiet. “How… how did you get this?”
He smiled, stepping up behind her to place his hands on her shoulders. “The Lord provides for his servants, my dear. Now, come. I have so much to show you!”
He turned, taking her hand to lead her to the first set of rooms, but stopped when he was met with resistance.
