Esme, hyped up on sugar energy and party excitement, skipped over to the pair. She studied them with curious eyes. “Are you girlfriends?” she sweetly and innocently asked.
Kara choked on air and Lena’s throat went dry, forcing a dehydrated cookie cough. Their friends all swiveled towards them, nosy and completely interested in the answer. Kara gave Lena a shy look and bent down to get to Esme’s eye level. “No, we’re best friends. What makes you think that we’re—“ She coughed. “—girlfriends?”
At a welcoming game night for Esme, Kara and Lena are their usual obvious selves. Esme asks an innocent question and through the use of her powers, gets some interesting answers.
