Summary
There was a pause, and he heard the sound of Kun moving, his coat crumpling as he extended his arm to him. Not his arm, his wrist.
Ten observed it for a second. He took Kun's wrist between dainty fingers. He slowly brought it to his nose and breathed in. The warmest, most delicious feeling spread through him, and his entire body relaxed. He brought the wrist closer and took in Kun's smell again, warm and spicy, basking in the sense of relief that took over him. He let the wrist go.
He turned to Kun, who was observing him raptly. His eyes were dark, his gaze heavy as he watched Ten. He cleared his throat suddenly, righting himself, pretending that the moment hadn't just happened.
He did not look at him when he said, "I thought I could smell it on you, but I wasn't sure."
Ten did not move, still a little bit dizzy, still a little bit high off Kun's pheromones. "Smell what?"
"Your pre-heat."

“Shit, my mom’s birthday is coming up,” suddenly announced Ten. Kun turned around to see him frown at his phone.
“Oh!” exclaimed Kun. “We should go shopping for a gift. Any ideas?”
Ten had disapproval written all over his face. “You, Qian Kun, will not do anything. I, her biological son, will buy her a gift.”
“Come on! I think she liked the flowers I had delivered last year.”
“Oh, she did!” exclaimed Ten. “That’s all she could talk about the whole time I was there. ‘Kun this, Kun that, oh my god, Kun is so perfect’,” said Ten in a high pitched voice meant to imitate his mother. “At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if she loved you more than she loves me.”
“Wouldn’t blame her,” muttered Kun only to have Ten stab him with a fork.

Maybe it started like this.
One night Kunhang almost walked in on Kun, sitting at the dinner table in the dark, head in hands. He stopped in his track when he noticed Kun was not alone.
Or maybe it started months before their debut when they were busy with rehearsals. Kun had asked Sicheng afterward whether he had also noticed Ten's discomfort as he tried to execute a particularly taxing sequence of movements.
Or maybe it started sometime late at night in foreign countries when Ten was so tired with longing he was unable to sleep. Lucas would pretend not to hear the words he would whisper over the phone.
Maybe it was a series of before and afters, a chain reaction, leading to the inevitable.
