Summary
Under the sunlight and away from the plants, Suguru could see Satoru in all detail. He was longer than he was tall, with extremely fine features for his size. Its white scaly skin was striking, blinding under the light. But he wasn’t pure white, Suguru realized. And it wasn’t all scales, either.
“It’s got feathers,” he said, stupidly.
Haibara-san gushed, “That was a surprise for everyone. Satoru is mostly Utahraptor, to get that size, but no one expected him to have that many feathers. The higher ups hated him when he came out of the egg; said he looked like a fancy chicken and threatened to have him cooked.”
“They really threatened to eat him?”
“Said they’d come down to the island and put him in a pot themselves. Then they sent Masamichi-sensei to look over the project. That was a couple years ago.”. . .
Suguru has been hired in the new Jurassic Park to help train Satoru, a young raptor created for the Japanese military. After a fight between dinosaurs causes a blackout, Suguru finds himself discovering how intelligent Satoru really is.

“Satoru?” The word rings, fuzzy in his ears as it whines like tinnitus, familiar and heart stopping.
‘I’m dead.’ He can’t even hear his own thoughts over the loudness of the world, staggering where he stands, eyes still fixated on the sky, on the sun. ‘I’m dead, I died, I felt my heart stop, this can’t be, it can’t-’
“Hey,” it comes again, a little more urgent than before, a little closer, another hammer to his ears and all the noise shrieking behind his eyes. He recoils hard enough to go stumbling as a hand reaches for him, covered in flesh rather than empty bone, tan and recognizable. Unbelievable.
There’s something wet trickling from his nose. Bile stings on the back of his tongue. The words dissolve into the rest of the white noise as he stares up at the blue of the sky, and tries to remember if he’d ever had a hallucination as bright as this.
‘I have to be dead,’ he thinks. Somehow, he isn’t.
Or: Gojo Satoru goes back in time. He makes a couple of changes for the better.
