The laws of thermodynamics define a group of physical quantities, such as temperature, energy, and entropy, that characterize thermodynamic systems in thermodynamic equilibrium. Traditionally, thermodynamics has recognized three fundamental laws, simply named by an ordinal identification, the first law, the second law, and the third law.
(or: Logan’s life is scheduled down to the minute. Wake up, go teach, go home, sleep. Rinse and repeat. He’s given up all hope of ever leaving his tiny hometown. He is perfectly content with his quiet, predictable, (boring) life. But then his old high school crush comes back to town and, like a whirlwind, upsets every single aspect of his precariously balanced life… and Logan realizes that maybe he isn’t quite so content after all.)

And then he got to the kitchen, and was hit by yet another awful realization. None of the appliances in his kitchen would work with no electricity. He had absolutely no means with which he could heat water for his tea.
And that was the moment Logan decided he hated his life.

“I barely noticed you were gone,” he hissed to the empty room. It was a lie, of course. Most words that slipped free of his tongue were lies. “I’ll see you… or I won’t. Whatever.”

In music, counterpoint is the relationship between two or more musical lines that are independent melodies, yet harmonically interdependent.
Lan Wangji, the principal cellist in his orchestra, finds himself performing JS Bach’s Art of Fugue with a student string quartet one semester and falls in love with the ways his life intersects with that of the lead violinist.
Wei Wuxian, a composition major, finds himself echoing that sentiment, and the story takes on some of the complexity and fascination of the music they are learning.

Summary
What does it mean to be one person living more than one life? Is it truly possible at all to be two people when you have only one skin, and only one heart to be shared?
These days, Lan Zhan has more names than friends. As Masked hero Hanguang-jun, he protects the night; as Lan Zhan, he nurtures his ward, A-Yuan. His only friend, his partner, and his almost-lover, the Mask known to him as Wuxian has died, and he is alone.
And then comes Wei Ying, A-Yuan's father, returned miraculously from a year-long coma. In no time, he begins claiming Lan Zhan's heart. As for Hanguang-jun, he finds himself chasing the elusive Yiling Patriarch, a new Masked threat with unnerving powers and a disturbingly familiar laugh.
Lan Zhan, Hanguang-jun, the whole person made of them both: he must fight through the confusion to the heart of the conflict, and in the process, learn the truth of his own heart.
