His face is bruised, his ribs are bruised, his arms are bruised, and his knuckles are split and bleeding. He’s on his back, blood dripping from his nose down his throat and each swallow is warm and metallic, like liquid pennies.
Everything hurts, but his head is clear. Clear like the patch of sky he’s looking at. It won’t be like that for long though, he can already see the clouds rolling in at the edges. Some days the clouds are more black than white—thick and ominous and foreboding. But other days, like today, they’re white and wispy, almost like a fog, with the blue of the sky still visible beyond them.
The view from here isn’t so bad.
“Kenchin?”
A blonde head leans into his vision. His bangs sway away from his forehead and Draken can see the inquisitive furrow of his brow.
Mikey smiles and it dispels the clouds with its brightness. He holds out a hand, a lot smaller than Draken’s own, and pulls him to his feet.”
