Summary

Summary
The Battle of Five Armies is over; Thorin, Kíli, and Fíli live hale and almost whole. There’s a poison in their blood, though, guilt and regret, a depression that won’t just quit. Kíli is slowly killing himself over his desperate need to keep his family safe, a perceived failing in the Battle pushing him. The dwarrowdam Illé from Ered Luin—now in Erebor—finds herself suffering the same, an obsession to keep the Royal Family safe after a failing during the Battle where she had the chance to save them from their almost-fatal wounds. She joins Prince Kíli’s new archery company in an attempt to keep them safe.
The appearance of bandits on the borders, slowly moving closer to the lands around the Lonely Mountain, and a vicious wolf rampaging villages causes their spiral downward to go faster. Though Kíli has his family, the Company, and Tauriel. Illé has her brother and fellow archers to help her; these obstacles may prove to be too much.
