Despite her aggressive tone, there was genuine curiosity behind her question. Why would the fox do that? She didn't understand. The fox simply shrugged and, after admiring his handiwork for a couple of seconds, hopped off the box.

Peter Quill stood right in front of the Broker’s door, still dumbfounded by the interaction. What a dickhead. You can’t just back out in a deal like that! He had almost died retrieving the orb for that asshole… What was he supposed to do now?
He let out a frustrated sigh and looked to his right… Just to see nobody there.
Why was he expecting someone to be there?
It almost felt wrong, like something was supposed to happen but for some reason… It hadn’t.

Ignoring the lab, of course. Back then, I didn’t understand what you were trying to do for me. I just saw myself inside a cage again and… I escaped.”
Rocket cleared his throat, trying to ease the lump steadily growing in it as he forced himself to look at the ornamented gravestone again.
“I really did disappoint you, didn’t I?”

After escaping from the High Evolutionary's lab Rocket had nothing left. The rest of Batch 89 were dead, the only family he would ever know. The whole galaxy seemed to hate him just for being alive, and he couldn't blame them for that. He had been arrested enough times that escaping was turning into a routine.
He had never met anyone else like him.
