His volume lowers, the veneer of indifference beginning to splinter at the seams, but Hank can’t place the strain of it. “We could make it a game if you’d prefer.”

    Hank is the one holding the gun, he is undoubtedly in control of this situation, yet he has rarely felt so utterly powerless as Connor smoothly raises his hand and with a quick flick of his wrist, sets the cylinder spinning.

    After a couple of revolutions, Connor gingerly stops it with two fingers. He nudges it a single chamber down with a click.

    “You go first.”
