“I’m right here.” Changbin’s smile is fond, still bright despite the hour. “You have me right next to you.”
Hyunjin steps forward, runs his thumb over the crow's feet at the corner of Changbin’s eye. The skin is soft under his fingertip. Changbin, long used to his skin, doesn’t flinch at the icy touch. “Only for a little while longer,” Hyunjin whispers and his voice trembles, a little leaf clinging to a bare tree just before winter flushes in.
“You make it sound like I’ve got one foot in the grave, darling,” Changbin laughs.

Minho scoffed. “He’s a human. Doesn’t matter how sweet he is, he’s just like the rest of them.”
“Hyunjin’s human, too,” Chan argued, gaze sympathetic as he watched his friend glare out the stained glass window of the rustic little café.
“Hyunjin is mated to a bloodsucker,” Minho rolled his eyes. “He won’t be human forever, and if he were to turn on us he’d go down with us for being with Seungmin.”
“It’s pointless arguing with him, Chan,” Seungmin added to the conversation as he sat down at the table, clearly having been using his enhanced hearing to eavesdrop. “He just views them as food and that’s all they’ll ever be to him.”
Minho growled, glaring at the vampire. “I don’t just see them as food,” he spat back. “They’re dangerous, and the fact that you all refuse to recognize that just proves how young you all are. I’ve seen them at their worst.”

But he didn’t even think to ask how the stranger knew that Yuta was watching this place for the winter, or what he was doing here in the first place. Hell, he didn’t even think to ask his name.
Instead, all Yuta asks is - “Will you be around?”
“Something like that. Doubt we’ll run into each other though. Oh, also-“ The man was stopping then, turning around to grin at Yuta again. There’s the same twinkle of mirth in his eyes, but this time his smile felt….different. Heavy. “Better be extra careful. There’s a ghost around these parts, though I’m sure the locals have already filled you in. Try not to let em' get you, someone like you is just their type"
Yuta runs from his writer's block the normal way; move halfway across the country to tend to a derelict lighthouse for the winter. The job listing does not mention Mark, the ghost that makes his home there.

Summary
He lifts his head up. He’s not supposed to— he knows that— but he does it anyway. The statue of his god has a chiseled jaw and a prominent, tall nose. He is beautiful in ways that the human is not. That he likely could not ever be.
Jungwon envies him, but he remains with his head lifted, spine still pressed low. It aches and burns in places he’s never felt such excruciating pain, but he wants to be seen as he asks this of his god. To, at the very least, say this voice that pleads is mine, no one else’s.
“And please bless me…with a torch to illuminate this unfamiliar road. Light to guide me. Fire to warm me. A sign or a symbol of your blessing, so that I know the fate that lies ahead of me is one you have so benevolently bestowed, just like your presence.”
The bells at the entryway of the temple jingle— and this time, it sounds like a laugh.
