What they don't know, is that X.A.N.A has evolved to the point of evading death. The Lyoko Warriors only delayed his progress, until one of them managed to seal him inside the Digital Sea. Aelita's father didn't tell them the whole story, and now the world has to face the unforgiving truth. William Dunbar must acknowledge the weight of his sacrifice.

Summary
Maria and the rest of the ARK were evacuated before the G.U.N. raid. Shadow was locked aboard the ARK in a stasis pod for 50 years. Eggman found notes from his grandfather about the Eclipse Cannon, but not Shadow.
Instead we get Sonic literally tripping over Shadow's pod and releasing him by pure accident. What's a top secret government bio-engineered hedgehog to do when surrounded by a bunch of people who know nothing about who he is supposed to do?
Apparently, make friends...

Following the ARK raid, Shadow is offered a deal when he manages to evade immediate capture, come with G.U.N. and allow them to use him for medical advancement, or be placed into stasis. Without Gerald or Maria around and nobody else to turn to, Shadow takes the deal even though he despises the organization and all that they are. They test him. A lot.
One day he won't have to go through this. One day he will be free.
But that won't be for a long... long time.

And he's right, Reinhard admits internally. There's millions of reasons why they shouldn't be so close, the silver on his blade speaking volumes, the blood smudge staining the corner of his lip in curtesy of a broom, "And yet I still find that singular reason more compelling."
Maybe it was the fact they were different, because in the end they weren't so different after all.
