No matter how hard Shane tried, he could never erase the memories of the night that echoed in him every time they bent their heads over the puck, every handshake a shock to his system.
So when the call came early last week that he had been flipped to Ottawa in exchange for a decent defenseman, one of their top prospects, and a handful of draft picks, of course the first thing he thought of was Ilya Rozanov.
Not his family, not his hometown, not the exciting team they’re building. Shane only thought of eyes the color of the sea, his hand pulling on dark blond curls, and the sound of a Russian accent moaning his name that rang out in his mind more often than not when he jerked off.

The club is too loud, too crowded, bodies on top of bodies, strobing lights, thumping music, and Ilya was over it. Especially because Shane’s attention is being taken by another man.
It was usually the opposite, Ilya wanting to party and get drunk and Shane wanting to leave or have one drink and call it a night. Ilya only came because it mattered to Shane. He wanted to go home for once and spend the night on their own. But, Shane wanted to have a night out with the team as the season came to a close, on-going to the final round before winning the cup which is practically theirs already. And who was Ilya to deny his husband a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?
And it was fine.
It was.
All until some guy, smiling too wide and standing too close, starts talking to Shane like Ilya isn’t even fucking there.

“They all know you’re a king Hollander,” Ilya muttered in Shane’s ear, speaking slowly so Shane could parse out the Russian words with his quick brain as they watched a rookie leave to go tell his friends that he talked to Hollander and Rozanov.
“Shut up,” Shane said, nudging him with his elbow before letting his hand drop to Ilya’s thigh. “I’m just here as a supportive husband.”
Shane Hollander is not invited to the All-Stars game as retaliation, but his husband, Ilya Rozanov, is. The lines between being a supportive husband and being unhinged about their shared dynasty gets a little blurred.
