Summary
With no warning, the highschooler Lilac and the younger next-door neighbor she babysits, Dana, are swept away by mysterious people and brought to a faraway island, where they are forced to undergo 'The Upgrade', an experiment that turns both of them into mermaids. Now, Lilac must balance surviving using what she has been given with making sure Dana is well taken care of. “Flair Gun” He corrected, still digging around in his drawer. “In the event that we needed to evacuate by the lifeboats, a flair gun would signal our position to any rescue boats”
“That’s actually pretty reasonable” thought Caz, only to be interrupted by the second item that Trots brought out.
“However” He said, attaching the ammo packet to the gun. “Because I’m a paranoid old man, as Addair likes to say, I messed around with it and found a way to turn this into a gun that can shoot both flares and bullets. Never thought I’d have to use it, but here we are.”

Hinako frowned and looked at her in confusion. Shiori moved closer to her.

It wasn’t as if Ruby Hoshino didn’t care for appearances. Especially in front of a classmate as dazzling as Shiranui Frill. As a public figure and upcoming actor she was, naturally, very particular about her appearances. She fixed her ribbon and ponytail every time she went to the bathroom, stopped herself from playing with the frayed ends of her uniform strings to mess it further, always kept a healthy posture and talked in a nice, polite, even tone.
But for a hot few seconds she knew she was red faced, flailing her hands everywhere, squabbling in broken syllables that didn’t mean anything and wheezing in disbelief in front of her and she couldn’t bring herself to care or stop.
Because how else was one supposed to act when the Shiranui Frill pulls you up to a corner and tells you that she fancies you?
As Ruby Hoshino gets a heart-throbbing confession from a girl she likes; she wonders how genuine can feelings go in this industry filled with facades and lies

"What is that? Harry wondered as he stared into the strange floating pram. The strange being stared back at him and tilted his ears in a way Harry would nearly call curious. Forget the strange short man with the goggles, or the nice doctor he saw just a week or so ago, this was the weirdest sentient he’d met so far.
“Bah!” they said in greeting and reached out with a tiny, clawed hand.
Cautiously, Harry reached out too, and as soon as their hands touched it was like something snapped into place. “I’m Harry,” he told them.
“Bah,” they repeated, and Harry’s mind was filled with a strange word that he just knew described the baby.
