One night, Katsuki experiences an episode of sleep paralysis. Izuku is there to comfort him, and they find their problems are more similar than they thought.

They were both sitting in his room, drinking tea and going through reports. The lanterns burned, bathing the stone walls in a molten yellow glow. The barracks were quiet, filled with the sleepy silence of the night, the silence in his room, however, was more of a thoughtful one.
Hange dropped her pen and got up, leaving her unfinished report on the table. She walked over to the window by his bed and threw it open, leaning her face out into the velvety blackness of midnight. He watched as a cold gust of wind brushed her hair and stirred the papers at his desk.
‘Hey Levi,’ she said quietly, ‘what comes to your mind when I say the word “love”?’

Soft thought it is, the epiphany hits Atsushi hard. The reason why Akutagawa won’t look at him, why he won’t talk to him. He never hesitated to say anything nasty before, which means that what he wants to say now isn’t nasty at all. It’s nice.
The thought defies belief, yet the more Atsushi looks at Akutagawa, the more certain he becomes. In a distant part of his brain, Atsushi hears Kunikida bellow at him to think. Careful Kunikida. Clever Dazai. But Atsushi is not them, he is not a careful, clever man, he is a beast of muscle and blood, driven by instinct and the heart that howls within him, so he does not think.
He acts, lifting a hand and touching the side of Akutagawa’s face with light, hopeful fingers.
