Dread filled Bruce as he immediately turned around. He ran back toward the building like his life depended on it. Robin glanced back at their fleeing target, but dutifully followed Batman.
When they entered the building, thin, pinkish smoke was already dissipating. Further in, someone coughed.
Gods, he hoped that was his boys.
Batman raced in, and the smoke fully cleared. What he saw in the center of the room made him question if he was hallucinating. Next to him, Robin went rigid.
Surrounded by scorch marks, drowning in their clothes, were his boys.
Boys.
Not men. Boys. "
