Summary
Shadow was finally best friends with Sonic, he could entrust his life with the other and he knew Sonic would do the same.
But now? Shadow questions if he was even worthy to be called such a thing in the first place, reason being? He betrayed the one person who understood him more than anyone, even Rouge. He left him for dead in the hands of ruthless scientists that could dissect him until there was nothing left of him.
Shadow knows that if Sonic was in his place, he would not care about the public and do his best to protect and help Shadow, he would not let Shadow be chained, he would not let Shadow be muzzled, he would not let Shadow be forcefully shoved into an E.P.F van as all his green emerald eyes held was fear and terror as he drastically looked around wordlessly begging for help as he stared Shadow dead in the eyes when all he did was nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing NOTHING NOTHING-
Shadow should have done something. Then maybe, just maybe, he wouldn’t be so disappointed in himself for betraying a person he cares about for the second time.
(Also I know the summary is bad, but bear with me.)

“…Shadow, I’m not your medicine.” - Sonic backed up instinctively, his voice trembling when he spoke.
“Maybe not. But you’re the only thing that works.”
“...That’s enough. I’m leaving.”
Suddenly, Sonic felt a sharp tug. Shadow’s hand tightened around his wrist.
“If you walk out now… I don’t know what I’ll do.”
Sonic yanked his hand free and stepped back. Obviously, he was ready to run.
“…Shadow. This isn’t you.”
Shadow gave a small smile, deviant.
“But maybe it is.”

Shadow believed Sonic was the only thing keeping him sane.
When Sonic tried to leave, Shadow didn’t want to let him go. He wanted to keep him. No matter what.
Maybe Shadow held him a little too tight.
Too tight.
And it forced him to face the consequences.
