Summary
“Have you ever wanted kids of your own?”
The pen in Dottore’s hand stuttered over the page once more. He recovered quickly, and the silence following that question only lasted a few seconds.
“Why?” Dottore droned wryly, yet again sounding bored with the conversation. “Were you planning on giving me one?”
Childe eyed his candlelit silhouette up and down. He had a terrible sitting posture, but he still somehow looked good in this kind of light—suddenly, even better than usual. “Maybe.”

Summary
They must have thought him half-mad, and maybe he had been. Devil-child, wild-eyed and bloody. We knew you were wrong, they’d said, your whole family. Cursed, heretic, your very existence blasphemy against the gods.
Certainly, they hadn't been wrong about that.Series

Summary
He hears Teucer finally venture to ask, a little shyly, “...so are you a toy seller too?”
Childe had warned him, and to his credit, Dottore does not even flinch. “No,” he says, expression deadpan. “I’m in research.”
Dottore reluctantly agrees to spend Winter Solstice with Childe's family.

Summary
Childe seems to sense that Dottore is easing into the idea, and his eyes spark with excitement. It's no different than how they spark at rising conflict, the prospect of slaughter; he's uncovered a challenge somewhere along the way, and like all others, he intends to seize it in earnest.
"You're a scholar, aren't you?" Childe asks playfully, leaning in a little closer to his face. "How does your type confirm or deny your theories? A bit of trial and error, isn't it? Maybe you just need to start your trials here."
Perhaps Dottore has simply trudged blindly into whatever trap Childe has set for him. But maybe, in this particular instance, Childe doesn't even know well enough to set such a trap. Maybe it's just a perfect opportunity to tap at the door of some forbidden knowledge Dottore had been barred from his entire life.

Summary
“It’s hardly as though we desperately need Tartaglia back here.”
And it was true, they did not. But it was in that moment, with a sickening feeling of self-disgust, that Dottore realised that he did. Pathetic. A pitiful, human emotion that dragged him down into the mud with the rest of the filth. And the worst part - the great cosmic joke of it all - was that Childe didn’t give a shit. Now with art!
