It was not Lilya's footsteps she heard first, nor the tent flap— those, the pilot made rather quiet as broached the entrance— rather it was the distinct smell of booze that always followed her. Vertin breathes it in again, finding, for all the time she'd cautioned against it before, she'd been searching for it tonight.

The fallout of Tuesday's Motel has left Lilya and Vertin frayed, prodding at their deepest and oldest wounds. The pilot's solution is two bottles of stolen whiskey and the roar of her engine. The Timekeeper's solution is to curl into the armor that's grown so heavy it begins to choke her. Neither succeed, so instead, they look to each other for comfort on this quiet night.
