    Summary

It looked like a high-budget movie set—all old-school grit, wooden scaffolding, and horses that smelled way too real to be props. The stands were packed with people in period-accurate dresses and tunics, their faces blurred into a mass of bloodthirsty energy. The roar of the crowd wasn't a party vibe; it was the sound of people who wanted to see someone get dismantled.

"Vestrasis emā ojūdan aōha bartos," the boy repeated.

Aerion stared at him with the vacant intensity of a man trying to read a menu in a dark club. "I don’t speak whatever Elvish shit you’re doing right now. No hablo Inglés, por favor."

    "Skoros?"

"Repeat that one more time and I'm gonna puke on your shoes. Que?"

The washerwomen say he was a Lysene pirate.
The stableboys swear he was a Dornish sellsword.
The servants whisper of a tall Northern wildling.

In the Red Keep, everyone has a theory about who sired Prince Aerion's three bastards. They imagine a dozen different alphas from a dozen different lands. Everyone, that is, except the silent seven-foot-tall knight in white standing right behind them.

The truth hiding in plain sight.

    Summary

Knowledge and strategy cannot topple the inherent doom of man's Hubris, nor could rightful selfishness kill Loyalty, for it will always stand, holding its guts in its hand if it has to. Copper covered tongues swear oaths truer than gods with golden chalices on the waters of hatred.

An oath long since broken, and as Wisdom's child falls into the water where hatred, woe, and fire shall converge, Fates clash — one unkind, one yearning — and threads are torn.

The Athenide is born with eyes that sought someone lost.

    Summary

There’s a crime scene board set up off to one side. Bruce wanders over to examine it while Batman goes about preparing the tests he’ll want to complete to make sure Bruce isn’t going to tear the fabric of spacetime apart.

He vaguely remembers this case. It was already a cold case even by the time Dick arrived, a murder whose trails had gone nowhere. It was one of the files he’d dusted off and given to Tim to practice his skills.

He hums approvingly as he studies the board. Tim’s getting close - once he finds the witness Bruce had overlooked the first time, he’ll have the lead he needs to crack the case.

Then he frowns, touching one of the photos of the building. It’s not one of the original crime scene photos, nor one of the ones Bruce himself had taken when the crime was fresh. Tim must have gone himself to take them after Bruce gave him the case.

Pride sparks in his chest, twisted with shame.

“Have you looked at this?” he asks, raising his voice enough for his younger self to hear him over by the monitors.

Batman grunts, glancing over and then away again. “It’s a cold case,” he says. “Robin’s been working on it.”

“I know that,” Bruce responds. “Have you looked at it?”

    Summary

Luna turned her head slowly, taking in the sea of leafy columns around her. The earth smelled sweet and lush, as though someone had spilt an entire harvest festival on the ground.

“Well,” she said aloud – with no one else around to hear – “this is new.”

A sudden gust of wind tore through the field, bending the green towers nearly flat and making Luna’s hair whip against her cheeks. It also revealed, hanging from the plants, large tufts of shaggy, golden-brown fluff.

“Not entirely new, then,” Luna concluded, rising to her feet with a small grunt. She brushed off her dress – pointlessly, since it was already a disaster – and regarded the towering stalks with polite interest.

“It appears I have landed myself in a cornfield.”

In which Luna is accidentally blasted into the past courtesy of one of her mother’s experiments. Somehow, she then manages to hoodwink a Dark Lord, acquire a cult following, seduce unsuspecting wixen with nothing but apples in hand, and thoroughly enrage a priest.

Love, naturally, sneaks in at the end.
