Summary
After everything was said and done, Valarr found himself riding his horse well behind the rest of the royal party.
He didn't mind having to go slower than he was used to when he traveled only with his servants and retinue, he only minded that he was constantly having to see ser Duncan straggling behind and pretending he was embarrassed to be there at all. Valarr had not been happy, obviously, to see the man joining them on the road, least of all that his uncle had invited him to accompany them to see Aegon to the official funeral in King's Landing.
It was enough that his father had died so shamefully, it was enough that Valarr had to see the man responsible day in and day out.

Summary
All Claudia knew about The Vampire Lestat was that he had raised her for some years before he abandoned them when the divorce came through. Tonight was only the second time she'd listened to his songs; the first, a few months ago when her dad had revealed to her, in a fit of shouting after yet another night where Claudia didn't come home until morning, how much she was like her other father, Lestat.
Lestat, such a funny name, unuttered in their home for ten years until her father couldn't hold it anymore.

Summary
A black stallion emerged from out of the river mists, a black knight on his back. Dunk saw the dragon shield, and the red enamel crest upon his helm with its three roaring heads. The Young Prince. Gods be good, is it truly him?
Lord Ashford made the same mistake. "Prince Valarr?"
"No." The black knight lifted the visor of his helm. "I did not think to enter the lists at Ashford, my lord, so I brought no armor. My son was good enough to lend me his." Prince Baelor smiled almost sadly.

Baelor has an important task the night before the trial of seven: Convince Valarr to participate.

Summary
The prince’s eyes are dry now, and he sits hunched over Ser Duncan’s gauntlets with his knobby little fingers scrubbing at the armor like it’s the most important thing in the world, although Pate catches him frozen a few times, staring at the shallow rise and fall of Ser Duncan’s chest. He says nothing about it. The work of cleaning the armor is thoughtless, methodical, and Pate loses himself in that for a while, in the steady, well-practiced motion of his hands, in the small comfort of fixing what little is in his power to repair.

Summary
"Have you ever slain a man, nephew?" his uncle had asked him, that last time they had spoken.
Reaching down, he splayed a hand over Daeron's cup and slid it across the table. That was unkind of him, Daeron would reflect later. It was the only cup he’d managed to sneak past his father.

"You fought well," Baelor says, extending his hand, and Dunk takes it gratefully. It feels like an anchor, gives him something to focus on besides all the pain brimming up in his body.
