“Mmh…”
Stevie sneezed, groaning miserably. She’d been sick for two days now and Robin could only be by her bedside for so long before he had to go back to work. He promised to hold off Keith until Stevie recovered by taking her shifts, and Stevie doesn’t think she could have a better friend if she asked.
Which brings her to now, where Eddie Munson was sat by her bedside, looking like she was worried Stevie would die any second.
Stevie hoped she didn’t look that bad, to the point she looked like she was on her deathbed. It would be mortifying. Especially in front of Eddie.
So maybe she had the tiniest crush on the other girl. Who could blame her?
She sneezed again, her head jolting forward as she did. “Mmh…” she sighed miserably.
“How come you always do that?” Eddie blurted out.
Stevie blinked. “Do what?”
“After you sneeze,” Eddie clarified, cheeks flushing slightly. “You always hum after.”
Stevie felt her cheeks turning pink. How had Eddie noticed that? “Oh. Do I? Sorry. It’s a habit,”
“Oh, no, don’t be! I think it’s cute,” Eddie stammered quickly, eyes wide.
Stevie flushed deeper and she hoped she could blame it on her fever.

The car came around the corner both suddenly and in slow motion at the same time.
Steve saw the headlights, registered it approaching at speed, heard the blare of the horn, but it was as if he was watching from far away, not in his body. He stood stock still even as his brain screamed at him to move.
The impact knocked him down, sending him lurching across the surface of the road, skin giving way against asphalt, and suddenly he was in a dry lake bed being dragged across rough ground like a fish on a hook.
