“So,” Ilya says, dragging the word out. He’s swiping at non-existent crumbs on the counter, avoiding his eyes. “You have dinner at parents on Christmas, yes?”
“Yeah.”
Ilya nods. “I can house-sit while you are away. Make place pretty, if you have decorations. Make it less boring.”
Shane’s eyebrows fly up. “What? You don’t want to come with?”
Finally, Ilya looks up at him. Hesitantly, he asks, “You want me to come with?”
Frowning, Shane says, “I– yeah. Yeah, of course. You think I invited you here just so you could spend Christmas alone?”
Looking away, Ilya shrugs. “I am intruder here, Hollander. You have family. I do not. Makes situation… difficult, maybe. You forget the world thinks we are rivals.”
“Not difficult,” Shane says immediately. “You want to come, you’re coming.”
Or: Ilya's in Montreal alone during the week leading up to the Winter Classic. Shane doesn't let him spend Christmas alone.

Summary
“Alright, the shirt is going to have to come off,” Shane says, sliding back. “I can cut it off you or you can take it off yourself.”
After a lengthy pause in which Shane is unprofessionally lost in those glittering eyes, the firefighter grabs the hem of his shirt and begins to lift. He stops almost instantly with his elbows crossed over his face and his chiseled abdomen right there for Shane to gawp at, holy shit.
The pained noise the man makes jars Shane back into motion. “Right, okay. My turn,” he mumbles, smoothing the fireman’s hands back onto his lap.

“That is because it is new,” Ilya said, breaking into a wide smile. “And you have not gotten to do all your Shane things yet.”
“My Shane things?” But now Shane was smiling a little too.
“You know, you study, you practice, you visualize the win. It worked for your backhand, it worked for blow jobs. It will work for this too.”
“And what am I visualizing this time?”
Ilya’s expression softened into something more serious. “Being happy,” he said. “Being free. Being safe.”

Summary
