The corner of a photograph poked her under the nail, but that wasn’t what caused the wince. What made Nurse Evans' face twist was the tape, still stuck at the corners, from where she was daring and desperate enough to tape it beside her monitor.
Desperate couldn’t describe the half of it, now.
Sometimes on her worst days, Dana would fall to her knees beside her baby’s effigy and pray until the next code blue. On days worse still, she would snatch it from the monitor and stuff it into her pocket, eliminating the risk that a puppy-eyed student who uses curiosity as a coping mechanism could end her career that day by asking about her family.

Nurse Evans knows she’s never been a perfect woman of God. But the gaggle of medical professionals that she calls her kiddos can't be convinced otherwise. Even the newbies have taken to exclusively referring to her as "Mama D". On any other day, that might be flattering -- but today is the anniversary of the day she really did become a Mama, and the quiet of what should have been very messy infant years after she put her baby into the social worker's arms still don't sit lightly.

Summary
When Whitaker finds out that Dr. Robby has been riding to work without a helmet, he begins to suspect Robby isn’t planning to come back from his sabbatical. Robby all but confirms it when he hands over the keys to his house.
After Whitaker calls Robby’s bluff and brings in the cavalry (i.e. Abbot and Dana) to stop him from hurting himself, he has no idea what the future holds. Worse, if Robby will ever speak to him again.
