Summary
The Swiss National League doesn’t care about the legendary Hollander-Rozanov rivalry. When the MLH can’t negotiate with the Hockey Players’ Union in time to prevent a hockey lockout at the start of the 2015 season, the Zürich Lions jump at the chance to sign both Shane and Ilya to short-term contracts. For four months in Switzerland, they share a team, a line, a house, and a bed.
Then the lockout ends in January, and it’s time to go back. Back to different countries, cities, lives. Beds.
Reentry is harder than expected.

Ilya takes him back to penthouse and takes care of him for a couple days, they work through shit, planner Ilya decides they are in a committed relationship by the end of the stay. VERY adorably bitey kitten Shane, Ilya obsessed with the cuteness. ‘Dinosaur support group’ of Shane, Ilya, Scott, Carter, and Marlow. VERY unfiltered / codependent / in each others pockets, cracky. Ilya has to visit Russia, Grigori throws knife at him and chokes him at dinner with officials. Ilya discovers Kip at smoothie place and group collectively sets up him and Scott. Shane out sooner, Montreal sucks.

(Pre-plot: post tuna melt, Ilya has bad accident on ice with his arm, can’t fully recover, then dad dies. Things stay broken with Shane. Ilya gets recruited to be Asst Coach under Wiebe for the Centaurs.)
Ilya does maybe one season with Centaurs before Shane moves to be on the team because Montreal sucks, queer panic ensues. The slow repair of them with persistent Shane, good Centaur shenanigans and queer avengers assembly, Ilya playing pick up hockey with Wiebe and his wife. Ilya recruits Ryan to be tape coach, the Bad Flight still happens, but they are together. Visits from Rose and Sveta, Sveta looooves Yuna, Scott wedding at end.
Funny, heartfelt, good tension. Good space to dwell in.

Summary
Shane Hollander knows he’s not a small guy. Years of hockey and workouts have built up his muscles, and lucky genetics from his father’s side places him just shy of six feet. He’s checked hockey players half a foot and several pounds more than him, knocked Scott Hunter into the ice in the one fight he’s ever actually thrown hands in. But as much as Shane loves the game, the fast movements, passes, and team camaraderie, there were times where he could only feel regret at following the path of athletic fame. He puts on the media smile he practices in the mirror as he brushes his hair each day, uses the bright lights of press conferences to erase his view of the audience, and keeps his answers simple and focused on hockey.
The number of people outside the arena still makes him feel crushed in on all sides, small. Eyes trained on his face, cameras flashing, pens and cell phones being passed into his hands. The itch of it all settles under his skin.

The one with the realistic Criminal Minds-level fan kidnapper, wish there was more of Shane and Ilya’s pre-shitstorm dynamic on its own. Great repeated use of the title. Possibly one of my favorite author’s notes: I needed to put Shane Hollander between my teeth and shake him... so that's what we're doing
