Since he passed through the Gate, Edward sees Alphonse's face nearly every night in his dreams and in his nightmares. One day, he sees Alphonse's face on a crowded street in Munich. He follows it, and meets Alfons Heiderich. Ed believes this is equivalency: Alphonse was taken from him, so he was given Alfons in return. But Alfons is not his brother.
(This is a dark story. It is also a love story.)
