Summary
Laudna had always loved children. Before she died most of the adults and teenagers of Whitestone considered her “weird”. The children though, they always accepted Laudna, weirdness and all. As far as they were concerned she was more fun to play with because she lacked the inhibitions the older members of Whitestone had. Laudna was always down for some crafting, or a puppet show, or even just some imaginary play. The children felt understood with Laudna, and Laudna felt the same with them.
Then she died, and suddenly children would scream and run in terror. She had long since given up on being accepted by children and babies, shying away from them herself. But she did miss being able to hold and care for babies and playing with kids.

Summary
It’s autumn when she sees them again.
It’s impossible, but she does.
Her patterns know it before she does.
(They’re glowing. She’s glowing, a faint, pulsing gold).
(They haven’t glowed in almost a century).

Summary
she dies that day; you’ll start calling it the day the world ended, even if it didn’t. it should have, you know that much, but it didn’t. something to do with her, as it always was, because she was too stubborn to let something as trivial as her death affect the world itself.
you can’t stop asking questions that you’ll never get the answers to. why did you leave? where are you now? is it better than here? are you happier there? can you be happier for me? do you think of me, of us? do you miss us? why couldn’t you take me with you?

“Why do you never want me to touch you, too?”
Laudna opened her mouth, but the answer didn't come out. She reached for it, but there was a tangle of thoughts and chilly static.
“I suppose I've never really thought about it…”

Summary
For what it was worth, she hadn’t sought her connection with the Dawnfather, it had been handed to her from birth.
A sign, most had said, that Whitestone would flourish and prosper under her leadership. That Whitestone was meant to endure, that the de Rolos were meant to endure…
Would they ask her to step down now? Now that she was no longer connected to the Dawnfather, was she no longer fit to lead Whitestone?

Summary
"Velora is four years old when she finds out she has a brother and sister.
She finds the painting by accident while playing hide-and-seek. She sees her father, stern with hands folded behind his back. Beside him are two young elves she doesn’t know. Their ears are small, but they look a bit like her, and a lot like each other. They aren’t smiling."
