Arithmantic predictions and her favoured divination methods time and time again showed that Lily would not live past a certain time. She argued, tried to get James to let them run, but he believed in his superiority, believed in Dumbledore, believed that Peter would not betray them.
So she wouldn't survive. That would just have to mean she'd give her child every possible advantage she could, and Lily wasn't magical Britain's greatest secret blood witch for nothing.
