Colin’s still hovering, reading her edit aloud, and Penelope’s trying not to melt under the weight of his grin.
“You’re cheeky with this one,” he says, voice light but laced with something else, something that makes her stomach flip.
She adjusts her glasses, fogged from that damn coffee, and shoots back, “Maybe you inspire cheekiness.”
It’s bolder than she meant, and his laugh—low, delighted—tells her he’s not letting it slide.
“Careful, Pen,” he teases, stepping closer, his hand still braced on the desk. “Keep talking like that, and I might have to keep you late more often.”
Her breath catches, but she tilts her chin up, meeting his gaze. “Promise?”
Penelope’s interning at Colin’s travel magazine, and late nights editing his latest piece spark more than words. When he finds her in his office, he shows her the perks of working under him.
