Tim reopened the photo of the bats and put it side-by-side with the art he’d just reblogged. People out there, for thousands of years, had figured out how to build up muscle memory and put lines down in a way that would trick the viewer into thinking those lines meant something. Batman wasn’t actually eating an overflowing burger in a harshly lit fast food establishment, this wasn’t something that had happened in real life as far as Tim knew. The style was cartoonish, almost caricature, and the colours were saturated, adding to the emotion of the piece—whimsy, humour, something dark and violent made bright and playful in its unreality.
Ceci n'est pas une pipe.
If people had been doing it for thousands of years, Tim was sure he could figure it out too.
Or: Tim can't share his photos of the bats with the world, and he's kinda bummed about it. Nobody ever said anything about drawings, though, did they?

Summary
Penguin was in jail, the man who shot Tim was in jail, what could she possibly do that was more than that? Justice had been served, even if it didn’t feel like it. Maybe because she knew they’d just be out again within a few months. At least she’d get the chance to kick their asses, then. At least she’d be able to do something, even if it amounted to nothing.
It didn’t feel like enough. Not against the bullet that had killed her best friend.
Or: Stephanie Brown is sick of losing people, and sick of being complacent. She does something about it.

Apollo drew in a breath. “Do you remember, when we were kids, and I’d… I’d have dreams about the fire, even though I didn’t consciously remember it? And whenever Dhurke wasn’t there you’d drag me over to his bed so we could sleep next to each other there? Well, uh… I know we’re not kids anymore, but…”
Nahyuta blinked. He… thought he remembered something like that, now that Apollo mentioned it. He didn’t remember it in the same detail as Apollo did, though he was moved by the fact that he’d clung on to that memory. He was a smart enough man to see what Apollo was getting at here. He didn’t need his brother’s perceptive ability to see the way he glanced down at the pillow next to Nahyuta’s, even in the dark.
Or: Two brothers comfort each other after having some rough dreams.

The Master settled into the plush armchair in the corner of his room and began reading. The story followed an unnamed criminal running from law enforcement by darting into a gap between two hedges and ending up in a labyrinth. When he turned around, the gap was gone and he had nowhere to go but further down the path into the maze. He kept encountering obstacle after obstacle, each one stranger and more taxing than the last.
Or: The Doctor is out, the Master is bored, and the TARDIS decides to take some inspiration from a book to entertain herself.

“How about that. I win.” He was weak now, his body too heavy for him to hold up by himself. He was letting himself die faster on purpose, speeding up his own decay out of spite. Even his mind was weakening, enough that he couldn’t stop himself from asking, from hoping. “Will it stop, Doctor? The drumming. Will it stop?”
His eyes slipped closed.
“Regenerate!”
The essence of pure time flooded his senses, blinding him even through his eyelids. The Master felt lighter and yet still weighed down all at once. Like death and life, dark and light merging into one. Then the golden light faded almost as quickly as it had arrived, and he felt himself fade with it.
And then he woke up.
Or: The Master doesn't die, and unfortunately learns that he is now capable of caring about other people. Bummer.
