    Summary

“Hey,” says Xiao. ”I’m going to ask you a question. You can’t ask me any questions back.”

“This seems like a fair and equal trade,” says Venti. “Sure!”

“If you’re in love with your therapist,” says Xiao, “you’re supposed to switch to a different one, right?”

    Bookmarker's Notes

A modern AU where Xiao somehow remains deeply traumatized and woefully unprepared to live a mundane line. WHICH I know sounds angsty but it's basically a romcom y'all.

This one has GORGEOUS dialogue and imagery. Everything read like a scene straight out of a movie. One of the comments pointed out that the characterization was exquisite not just in that it respected the canon personalitiess, but added another, deeper layer to them. They were "familiar and all-new to discover," which is key, in my opinion, to writing good fanfiction. I could not love the Venti depicted here more.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This bookmark is specifically for chapter 13, though chapter 12 is a good moodsetter for it. This one hit hard with its metaphors and repartees and left me with the pain lingering — but, similar to the author's other work "Flower Cutting", it has a hopeful, if open-ended, ending!

It's mainly KenSato angst. Yashiro appears briefly at the end as the villian of the story.

    Summary

Alastor decides to indulge Vox's obvious psychosexual obsession with him—for the sake of curiosity and entertainment, of course! As these things go, it is not very long at all before everything...escalates.

Or: Kink, self-discovery, and Alastor accidentally digging himself into a hole labeled "Oh, fuck, when did I start caring?"

    Bookmarker's Notes

Exquisite exploration of the aroace identity and its associated traumas. Features an Alastor who is aromantic yet capable of love, sex-averse yet kink-favorable, sadomasochistic yet learning to care.

Special mention to parts 5 and 13, which shattered my heart and built it anew. Definitely requires context of the entire series though; it's meant to be read in order.

Couuuld be tagged porn with plot, if plot is the incidental exploration of the necessity or lack thereof of reciprocity in relationships? There's a quote from How to Read Literature Like a Professor that goes something like (paraphrased off memory because like hell am I digging up my old copy), "Everything in literature is about sex, except sex itself. Sex is about power," which is absolutely true in this case. All the sex in 666! centers around the vulnerability inherent to willingly giving up and taking power in a relationship that is already fraught with betrayal, composed of individuals resistant to trust.

    Summary

Vox realizes at the most inopportune moment possible that he is still quite pathetically gone for Alastor, and thus saves his life—in exchange for a deal. Alastor, on the other hand, strives to be inopportune at all possible moments, and thus learns what he is willing to sell in exchange for his own life. After all, "love" can be interpreted in so many different ways.

    Bookmarker's Notes

One of my favorite renditions of Alastor bleeding out after his encounter with Adam. Vox offers a deal. Closely paralleled with the "666: Live on Air!' version by the same author, my other favorite. Chapter 1 works standalone.

    Excerpt:
It is really unfortunate, Alastor muses, that Vox is just so efficient at tearing his own heart open. It makes such a mess, spilling everywhere, that there’s no fun in Alastor doing it himself. And the man isn’t lacking in sharp edges himself, either—why, why else would there be a pricking behind Alastor’s own breastbone? Secondhand, brokenhearted shrapnel, surely.

    Summary

Overlord Vox, established member (read: leader) of the Vees, is kind of obsessed with this guy that's been catching a lot of media attention up top! What can he say? He really appreciates an artist! But when he finds out that his favorite true crime podcaster has been knocked off the mortal coil, the irony is just too much!

He knows what they say about meeting your heroes, but…simping for serial killers, it’s not like the guy ended up in heaven, so what’s truly stopping Vox from rolling out the red carpet and giving a warm welcome to the one newcomer to hell that really deserves it?

    Bookmarker's Notes

Alastor and Vox role reversal, where Vox is the established overlord and Alastor is the newcomer to hell — except Vox is still very much pathetic and obsessed with Alastor, with none of the grudging respect that comes with it.

Alastor gives as good as he gets.
