Robby was still waiting for an answer.
Dennis took a shuddering breath. “Because I-”
Robby ground him down particularly hard, and his voice caught in his throat.
“Sorry, I didn't quite catch that. What were you saying?” the man teased.
“Because I’m yours,” Dennis admitted, tears starting to fall. “I'm yours. I'm only yours, Dr. Robby. She can't have me.”
“That's right,” Robby smiled, hand moving down to Dennis’ chest. He knew he could trust the boy to keep looking forward. “She can't have you. But she can watch, from a distance, right? That's allowed?”

Summary
The first couple of dollars that the machine ate up without remorse were an annoyance, something that made Dennis sigh and unzip his wallet without thinking about it to try again. By the time that the vending machine had eaten seven whole dollars, in coins, and Dennis didn’t have anything to show for it, he was close to thumping his forehead against the cool glass and hoping he could derive some sort of enjoyment or nourishment from simply just looking at the colourful packages as they remained firmly in their coils.
He didn’t often carry coins. Those were his last few dollars and he was woefully aware that somebody had offhandedly mentioned that the staffroom vending machine destroyed notes, so he wasn’t going to be getting a soda, a bag of chips or anything else that might settle his belly from the incessant grumbling it was doing.

it's been a long while since Dr Robby has had feelings for anyone, so long in fact that he reads a little too much into the actions of a certain med student and thinks he might just be the second coming of christ. He has evidence that it could be that. But really he's just down bad for him, the good news is, his crush is down just as badly.
aka in which robby has a thing for whitaker but takes a little while to realise what it is. whitaker is down just as badly.
Written before the end of s2. Robby does leave for his trip but he also comes back.
