Summary
The case should be routine. But it isn’t.
When Lucy is assigned to investigate a series of assaults targeting women who look disturbingly similar to her, instinct tells her there’s more at play than just random violence. As the pattern reveals itself more and more, so does the realization that some threats aren’t just about the job, they’re about who you are.
And of course, Tim Bradford has never been good at just standing by when the danger becomes too personal.

Summary
She took a breath, squared herself. “Okay. Stay put. Do not open this door unless I’m the one on the other side. I’ll go… prep them.”
“Prep them?” Tim repeated. “How exactly do you prep someone to meet their younger selves?”
Angela’s smile went crooked. “Carefully.”
She reached for the door panel, paused, and looked back at them. For the first time since they’d appeared in the parking lot, her expression was unguarded. Warm. Fond. A little amazed.
“For what it’s worth,” she said quietly, “you turn out okay. Both of you.” Her gaze flicked between them, lingering just a beat longer than necessary. “Better than okay.”
Lucy’s chest squeezed. “Do we… stay friends?” she asked. It felt ridiculous, but the question tumbled out anyway.
Angela’s eyes softened. “Oh, honey,” she said. “You have no idea.”

Summary
“I said, get out, Officer Chen,” he repeats, and then he turns to stare at her and she’s a deer caught in the headlights, unable to look away from the intensity in his gaze.
“Why?” she asks, though it’s much more quiet and less confrontational than before.
Tim takes a deep, shaking breath in, and then licks his lips as he lets his eyes slide down the curves of her body, lingering on her breasts and the way her hips fill out her uniform before sliding back up to meet her gaze.
“Because, Boot, I’m going to show you that I know exactly what to do with a woman when I have her in my bed.”

Summary
“Hey,” she begins, but Tim pushes right past her, into the apartment, without so much as a greeting. Lucy sighs and closes her eyes, biting her lip as she closes the door and leans against it for a moment.
She turns around, and the Tim she sees before her both causes her heart to race, and to ache. He looks upset, both angry and heartbroken, and his hands are clenched tightly into fists at his sides.
“Why?” he asks, and Lucy glances at him in confusion.
“Why what?” she shoots back, and Tim glares a little as he takes a step toward her.
Lucy feels like prey. She’s dressed in only tiny shorts and a t-shirt, she’s almost a foot shorter than Tim, and his presence is all consuming. All she can see or hear or smell is him, and her heart pounds painfully in his chest as he backs her up against the door.
He’s not touching her, yet, but he’s surrounding her, and Lucy likes it.
“Why are you with him?” he demands, and Lucy opens her mouth to respond, to tell Tim she isn’t, but he lurches forward and kisses her.
OR
Chris proposes. Tim sees, assumes the worst, and then confronts Lucy at her apartment. Miscommunication and sex ensue.
