Klaus is too preoccupied watching an assortment of bullets work their way out of his chest to notice the final gunshot until it's too late.

Waking up after the Handler murders his entire family isn't on Klaus' bingo card, but then again neither was half of the shit he'd been through in the past few years. Armed with nothing but one of the Commission's stray briefcases and his newfound ability to bounce back from death (who would've guessed), he finds himself back in their original timeline burdened with the knowledge of what's to come and a collection of siblings who refuse to listen to him.

The Soldier’s understanding of the world begins to unravel after he completes a mission and finds a helpless and shivering kitten. Unable to leave, knowing the frail thing will die in the elements, the Soldier makes a choice...
Overwhelmed and now hiding from his handler's, things only get more complicated when he lays eyes on a picture of a familiar blonde face..
The Soldier can not risk contact, capture, and the inevitable return to Hydra and captivity would bring. He may remember Steve Rogers, but he also remembers Captain America. Similarly enhanced, the Captain would have the advantage, the Soldier’s movement would be limited with the kitten’s safety to consider.
He’ll seek out Steve Rogers, who seems to feature in nearly every memory with Bucky, but he’ll be cautious. Can hopefully glean from the exposure more about the time before Bucky – before he – was presumed dead in a war. From before Steve’s Bucky became Hydra’s, time stuttering by till the Soldier was born.

Klaus isn’t sure what drives his next movement. He had never been particularly brave or self-sacrificing – usually leaving those stupid heroics to Luther or Diego. But he is suddenly on his feet and stepping in between the detective and the hitwoman as she pulls the trigger.

Klaus’s rescue from Hazel and Cha Cha plays out a little differently. Instead of escaping through the vent and disappearing into the past, Klaus takes the bullet meant for Detective Patch and bleeds out on the motel floor. The thing is, he doesn’t stay dead.
Cue, afterlife epiphanies, surprise revivals, and Diego & Ben being mother hens.
