Vi simply squinted. “Every month?” She said, then scoffed. “Cait, I haven't had one in years.”
Caitlyn’s head snapped up and her singular eye stared at her so intently that Vi supposed she might have sprouted a pair of horns.

Summary
After ten years in Stillwater for a crime she didn't commit, Vi breaks herself out and goes home. Her homecoming doesn't go like she thought it would.
Two years later, she's out of control and out on the streets. She's now a champion pitfighter, a raging alcoholic, and completely on her own. Despite her family's best (and desperate) efforts to help, Vi's on a one-way track to ending up either dead or back in prison.
At the same time, Caitlyn arrives in the undercity to collect data and information for her thesis. She starts her research from a local bar called The Last Drop, which puts her right into Vi's path. Vi might have been out of her family's home for years, but she's still not going to let a topsider put them in danger.
Canon divergence (everyone lives!), enemies to lovers (barely, the lovers aspect happens fast), angst, trauma, addiction, and also fluff and humour (because these things can co-exist!)

“I’m serious! She’s…ugh…she’s incredible. And I…oh god, I miss her so much right now..” Her voice cracked dramatically, and she leaned forward, elbows on the bar, hiding her face in her hands.
Mylo’s brow furrowed. “Miss her? She’s at home, isn’t she?”
“Exactly!” Vi threw her hands up, gesturing wildly. “And I’m here, surrounded by…by people who are loud and annoying and…ugh..” She kicked at the stool, sending it scraping against the floor.
“I just want to be with her..I want to see her stupid little smirk when she reads something she likes, I want to…ugh…” She flopped back onto the stool, letting out a long, theatrical sigh. "I miss my wife."

“The girls aren’t close, not at all. They’re cordial enough during classes as to avoid Vi wringing Caitlyn’s neck during discussions, which they’ve come close to more often than one would think.
Caitlyn has a feeling Vi feels less than great about having to be within at least one hundred meters of Caitlyn’s proximity. She’s called her many-a-name, some less creative (i.e. bitch) and some more (i.e. mommy’s personal propaganda vessel for the youth).
She scowls and scoffs and laughs in her face.
After those first few taunts, Caitlyn had to stop herself from wringing Vi’s own stubborn, strong, tattooed neck.Acquaintances would even be an overstatement.
Rivals would be dramatic.
But with the way the two seem to constantly be on opposing sides and are both passionately vying for a specific opportunity Caitlyn will not be stressing herself about right now, it wouldn’t be inaccurate.”
